Neck is a great place for carrying a knife, especially when we want to use it as a means of self-defence. The knife is faster to reach and use. The knife itself as well as its sheath must be adapted for this.

Neck knives? Interesting variant of carrying this kind of weapon, but why not. However, it is rather place for small knife. No one can really imagine to carry 30 cm monster, which would be highly uncomfortable on our neck. So are there any esssentials for such knife ? Yes, there are so keep reading to find out more.

Small but sneaky

Neck knives are rather back-up knives or self-defence knives. Our main knife will be always at the waist, first back-up in the pocket and second can be the neck knife. This placing has its reason. Imagine situation, where we have to defend ourselves. Our hands covering the head and when we try to reach for a knife into the pocket we expose our head and all of a sudden our opponent has an advantage. That is why neck knife can be our great advantage. A tiny blade that can be quickly reached and used. Cutting or stabbing knife ? What does it mean ?

A knife or dagger ?

The neck knives can be divided into the two groups, cutting and stabbing knives. By the name we can tell that one will be for cutting and the other for stabbing. The cutting knife is the knife we all know with a handle and blade. From side on, daggers are always symmetrical and both sharp edges always go down to a point. Handle can be concealed in a fist with only blade sticking out between middle finger and forefinger. That is why stabbing weapon. We can have both types on our neck, it is up to us what we prefer and choose.

Small weight, great hardness

So in general, what such a knife should be like ? Definitely small and lightweight. Low weight ensures that the cord won´t get damaged and thanks to the small size the knife will be unobtrusive. But even such a small knife deserves to have high-quality material. The steel must be stainless, strong and durable. Great are for example Aus-8 or 13Cr6MoV. Really high-quality is then D2. The question mark is sheath. It can not have any locking system yet be too loose otherwise the knife won´t hold inside. Ideally buy a knife with a plastic self-locking sheath that provides holding of the knife and allows quick drawing.

Cutting or stabbing ?

We should decide which one we want. "Standard" cutting knife in more versatile, stabbing is better in combat or self-defence. We should then choose the size of the knife, whether we want smaller or bigger. Key thing is comfort of carry - the sheath must be comfortable to carry - not to loose yet not too tight. Last but not least, focus on material, which makes a knife.
